Our Program Model Who We Serve This Year's Theme Program Highlights
Our Program Model
BCAP makes learning an adventure! BCAP is a program of Heart of Brooklyn, a unique partnership among six of Brooklyn's most treasured cultural institutions: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park and Prospect Park Zoo. BCAP takes advantage of these incredible resources by offering thematically linked, hands-on experiences at each of our partner institutions.
During our two-week summer program, our campers visit two of our Heart of Brooklyn partner institutions each day. There, they engage in creative projects, exploration, experimentation, games, and educator led tours that weave thematic connections between art, world culture, literature, history, nature, and science.
All lessons are consistent with New York State Learning Standards and are lead by members of the educational staff of each institution.
Who We Serve
Age Range: (7-12)
Children who apply for BCAP must be at least 7 years of age before the session that they attend and be no older than 12 years of age.
Age Grouping
Adventures are grouped with children in their general age range:
Each BCAP Group consists of 20-23 children who are supervised by 4-5 of our highly qualified staff members.
BCAP Adventures come from backgrounds as diverse as Brooklyn itself! We welcome children from all cultures, economic backgrounds, and family structures. We believe that one of the best ways to learn about diversity is by building friendships with diverse groups of people. We build a sense of community centered on common interests and respect for differences.
To help ensure that children from all economic backgrounds have equal access to BCAP Summer Camp’s award winning programming, we offer full and partial financial aid to families who qualify, based on their economic needs.
No Residency Requirement
You don’t need to be a Brooklyn resident to be a BCAP Adventurer! Each year we welcome children, not only from across the city but also the country, even a few from across the world!
This Year’s Theme
Transformations Take a journey this summer to discover how places, ideas and living things can change into something new.
